Aadhaar was removed as a valid document for correcting the date of birth by EPFO on 16th January 2023.

Certain beneficiaries were using Aadhaar as proof of date of birth, even though it's not recognised for that purpose.

UIDAI issued a circular that says Aadhaar serves as identification only, not birth verification, which aligns with the Aadhaar Act 2016, defining Aadhaar as an identity document.

The CPFC - Central Provident Fund Commissioner approved the decision. A previous UIDAI circular and court judgments also clarified that Aadhaar is not proof of birth.

Birth Certificate Marksheet from Govt Board/ University School Leaving/Transfer Certificate Service Record Certificate PAN Card

Central/State Pension Order Domicile Certificate

Accepted DOB Proofs

A medical certificate and affidavit can be submitted if no valid document exists.

Impact of This Change

This directive might prompt various organizations, which had previously acknowledged Aadhaar for DOB verification, to review and modify their policies and procedures.
