The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) often brings in new updates to ensure the smooth updation of details by Aadhaar card holders. The ‘Head of Family’ based online update is one of them. Know what its details are and how it can be helpful to you.

What is the ‘Head of Family’ Based Online Update in Aadhaar?

On January 03, 2023, UIDAI introduced a new facility by which you can update the address on your Aadhaar card online with the consent of your Head of Family (HoF). Any person above 18 years of age can act as the HoF and update the Aadhaar card address of their parents, spouse, children, or relatives who are living with them.

This move by the UIDAI will serve as a boon for those residents who want to update their Aadhaar card addresses but do not have the supporting documents in their name to do so.

How to Update Details of Aadhaar via Head of Family Method?

Follow these steps to help your family member update their Aadhaar card details:

Step 1: Submit the proof of relationship documents like a passport, ration card, mark sheet, marriage certificate, etc. They must contain your name, the person’s name for whom you are acting as the HoF, and your relationship with that individual.

If the proof of relationship document is not available, the resident who wants to update address details must provide a self-declaration by the HoF in UIDAI’s prescribed format. Any valid proof of address document will be acceptable in this case.

Step 2: Then, you have to pay a fee of ₹50 for the updation service. After the payment is successful, the resident will receive a Service Request Number (SRN) and you will receive a notification for the address request.

Step 3: Hereafter, you will have to approve the request. Log in to the My Aadhaar Portal within 30 days of getting the notification to give your consent. This will ensure that the request is processed.

Note – In case you do not share your address, or neither approve nor reject the request within 30 days, it will become invalid.

Step 4: After you approve the request, the individual seeking to update his/her address will receive a notification about the request closure through an SMS on their registered mobile number.

Any family member seeking to change the address can also initiate this request.

Final Word

With this new update, you will now be able to update the address in your Aadhaar card without any hassles. Moreover, the entire process can be completed online, which makes it yet more seamless.

How many times can I change my Aadhaar card address?

According to the UIDAI, you can update the address on your Aadhaar card any number of times. This is not applicable to your name, date of birth, and other information as you can change them only once or twice.

Will I get a new Aadhaar card after updating my address?

Yes, you will get a new Aadhaar card delivered to your new address after your request is updated. However, it may take up to 90 days for the process to get completed.

Can a husband or wife change the address on their Aadhaar card after marriage?

After marriage, if an individual shifts to a different location, he/she can use the partner’s address to update it on the Aadhaar card. The update will take place after verification and a new Aadhaar card with the updated address will be sent to the recipient’s address.

Can I change my name and address on my Aadhaar card at the same time?

You can easily change your Aadhaar address online via the Self Service Update Portal (SSUP). However, for details like name, gender, phone number, etc., you need to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
